COMPLETE: Horan Hall - Brief Network Outage 1/11 at 2pm

UPDATE: As of 3pm, this maintenance was completed successfully.

Physical Plant will be conducting a generator test in Horan Hall Friday, January 11th at approximately 2:00pm. 

There will be two brief outages, one while switching to generator power, the other while switching back to main power.

This will not affect the rest of campus.

COMPLETE: Network Maintenance Jasper Hall 1/11 at 7am

UPDATE: This network maintenance lasted a little longer than anticipated. As of 8:25am, the network maintenance was completed successfully. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

ITS will be conducting network maintenance in Jasper Hall on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 7am-8am, which will cause some localized network outages.

In order to improve both wired and wireless network reliability in Jasper Hall, ITS will be conducting network maintenance on the equipment that services Jasper Hall. This maintenance will cause disruption to both the wired and wireless networks throughout Jasper Hall, including Public Safety and Jasper Client Service offices. This maintenance will not affect the rest of campus.

UPDATE: As of 7:15am, this network maintenance has been completed successfully.

In order to improve network bandwidth and stability on campus, ITS will be conducting some network maintenance in DLS to install some additional hardware on some of our core equipment  on Tuesday, January 7th, 2019, at 7am.

This maintenance may cause a brief network outage on all upper campus buildings. This would affect both the wired and wireless networks.

Securing New Devices in an IoT World

The Internet of Things (IoT) continues to expand as more of our "things"—in our homes, our cars, and our pockets or purses—include chips, tags, or sensors that are ready to connect to the digital world. There's no denying that new devices are fun, but while there are more opportunities to interact with people, share information, and stay connected, we also need to be aware of the risks these things may introduce. Here are some tips to help your end users ensure that their new devices are an asset, rather than a liability.

NO UPDATES SCHEDULED - Preventing Phishing over the Holiday

ITS will NOT be performing updates over the Holiday break.  

ITS will NOT ASK for you to update your password or other personal information.

As we approach the Christmas Holiday break, ITS would like to remind campus users that we will NOT be performing updates and will NOT ASK for information from you.  Phishing attacks are on the rise and we are taking steps to prevent these attacks from affecting Manhattan College.

If you receive an email or other communication requesting personal information or asking you to update your password - DO NOT RESPOND.  These messages should be reported to ITS or the sending office for validation.

Unscheduled Microsoft Internet Explorer Patch Released

Typically Microsoft schedules patches to be released on either the second or fourth Tuesday of the month. Today, Microsoft released a patch due to an actively exploited security hole in Internet Explorer. Update your Windows computers, please.

For Windows 10, Windows Update is found within Settings.

For Windows 7 & 8, open Control Panel and select Windows Update.

Temporary Electrical Shutdown Leo Hall 12/20 at 530am

ITS has been made aware by Physical Plant of a short partial electrical shutdown in Leo Hall on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 530am to 730am.

Leo 3rd and 4th floors will be impacted. This electrical shutdown may cause the network, both wired and wireless, to be down on these floors as well. Other parts of the building should not be affected.

Although Physical Plant does expect to be completed before 07:30, occupants should not plan on being in the building on floors 3 and 4 before 07:30. As a precaution, we suggest that computers, printers, and sensitive electrical equipment that can be shut off be turned off in advance of the shutdown. Physical Plant and ITS are aware that there are intersession classes in the building, however, Physical Plant does not expect to have any issue having power restored in advance of those classes.
