Degreeworks Update

ITS has been working to repair an issue with the Degreeworks system that caused the system to be offline for significant periods between 4/19-/20 and periodically since 4/11.  ITS has been working directly with the Degreeworks vendor to troubleshoot the issue.  The Degreeworks system became AVAILABLE at approximately 7:00PM on 4/20.  ITS is continuing work with the Degreeworks vendor and will be closely monitoring the system over the next 48-hours.  We expect that the system will be made unavailable for short durations during this time in order to apply a permanent fix to the issues experienced since 4/11.

25Live survey - Please provide your feedback.

25Live is a software solution that was implemented prior to academic year 2015-2016 that enables electronic processes to: 1) schedule academic (classroom) spaces based on a variety of needs and preferences for academic course sections, 2) find and request space on campus for a variety of uses including meetings and events, 3) promote campus events and happenings by incorporating the event promotion and space request process into a single workflow.

With any major change such as implementing a product like 25Live, there are "lessons learned" during the implementation and initial use that may identify or highlight new or existing processes/configurations that should be modified or updated.  During the first year of use, we have received much feedback regarding what is working well as well as areas for improvement.  Please provide your feedback below reflecting your experience using 25Live.  There will be an opportunity at the end of the survey for comments.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your feedback!

Computer Lab Software Request Deadline - Friday, May 13th, 2016

If you would like to request an upgrade of a software already installed in the computer labs OR if you would like us to install a new software in the computer labs on campus, please fill out the Software Request form linked to below (click the big green box that says “Request Service”):

Please note that fully completed forms are required for any change to the labs, even for free software. All software installation media and licenses are also required by the due date.

Requests for the Fall 2016 semester should be submitted by Friday, May 13th, 2016. Requests submitted after the deadline may not be installed in the labs for the Fall 2016 semester. This is because we need time to develop an installation procedure and test the software in the lab environment before deploying the software. We also require a number of weeks to deploy the lab images across campus, which means our solutions need to be complete and tested several weeks prior to classes beginning.

Please submit your Software Request forms ASAP.

Office Lens: Record notes from you iPhone, Android Phone, or Tablet

Office Lens is a handy capture app that turns your smartphone into a pocket scanner.  Use it to take pictures of receipts, business cards, menus, whiteboards or sticky notes—then let Office Lens crop, enhance and save. Just like that—all the scanned images you capture from Office Lens are accessible on all your devices.
Here’s a quick look at some of the more significant features and capabilities that Office Lens for iPhone supports:
  • Recognizes the corners of a document and automatically crops, enhances and cleans up the image.

Before-and-after look at pictures of a receipt and a paper document captured and processed by Office Lens for iPhone.
    • Identifies printed text with optical character recognition (OCR) so that you can search by key word for the image in OneNote or OneDrive.
    • Converts images of paper documents and whiteboard notes into Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and PDF files for easy editing and reformatting (see more details here).
    • Captures business cards and generates contacts you can add to your phone.
    • Inserts images to OneNote or OneDrive (as DOCX, PPTX, JPG or PDF format) and gives you options to save, export and share the image.

Manhattan Engineers Pioneer NEW WIFI Hotspot Technology

Release Date: 2016-04-01

Manhattan College Engineers have created a new WIFI hotspot technology that promises to deliver high-speed WIFI connectivity to an entire building with only 1 antenna.  Taking inspiration from recent advances in covert cell phone tower technology as well as architectural aspects of the Manhattan College campus, engineers have created a new WIFI hotspot antenna that is a perfect blend of form and function.

Manhattan College ITS has been quick to seize the opportunity to deploy this new WIFI antenna technology.  ITS will be deploying the new cupola WIFI antennas across campus to enhance JasperNet WIFI.  The project is expected to be completed by April 1st, 2017.  Below is an artist's rendition of what the new deployment will look like once completed.  #weneedmorecupolas

Faculty and students will now be able to enjoy 100% WIFI coverage anywhere on campus without ever feeling like they've left the quad.
