Reminder to transition to Google Drive: one place to create, collaborate, share and keep all your stuff.

Have you transitioned from your home server storage space to Google Drive yet? After November 1st, 2016 the Home Server network drives will no longer be publically accessible. Take a few moments to walk through our Knowledge Base article for Transitioning from Home Server to Drive if you need a refresher on procedures for the transition:

Google drive is a tool available to all JasperNet users.  Google drive keeps your files safe and allows access to them from anywhere.    Drive provides JasperNet users with unlimited shared storage (shared with Drive and your Gmail account).

Drive represents a significant upgrade to your home server account by delivering unlimited storage as well as access from anywhere.  Not only is Drive accessible from any campus computer, but anywhere in the world through your JasperNet Gmail account on the web as well as on your phone or tablet through the Google Drive app.
Additionally, Google Drive Sync is available for your Mac/PC desktop to synchronize your local files with your Drive storage - giving you seamless, secure access to your files anywhere/anytime.
With Google Drive, you’ll get access to new features.
  • Access everywhere, every device. Drive comes with desktop and mobile apps, making it much easier to upload, sync and access your stuff from any device. Get Drive for Android and iOS and you can create and edit documents, open and share files, and upload photos and videos.
  • Find your stuff faster. Look for files by keyword and Drive searches everything — even text within scanned documents or images without any text at all. Drive also comes with a simplified navigation to help you better organize your files, and there's a new grid view to help you see thumbnails at a glance.
  • Work with more apps in Drive. Google Drive is integrated with a growing number of third-party apps, so you can do things like send faxes, edit videos and create website mockups all in one place.

Organizing your files in Drive

Saving lots of files in Google Drive is a great way to keep them safe. But as you put more and more files there, keeping things organized can be a bit of a challenge. So, here are some recent improvements that will help you more easily put things where they belong:
  • When you're browsing files, the toolbar now shows a “Move” icon for files already in Drive and “Add to My Drive” for everything else.
  • When previewing files, a new icon lets you add the file to any folder in “My Drive” quickly and easily.
  • From search results, you can now drag and drop files into folders.

Computer Lab Software Request Deadline for the Spring 2017 Semester is 11/11/2016

If you would like to request an upgrade of a software already installed in the computer labs or if you would like us to install a new software in the computer labs on campus, please fill out the Software Request form linked to below (click the big green box that says “Request Service”):

Please note that fully completed forms are required for any change to the labs, even for free software. All software installation media and licenses are also required by the due date.

Requests for the Spring 2017 semester should be submitted by 11/11/2016. Requests submitted after the deadline may not be installed in the labs for the Spring 2017 semester. This is because we need time to develop an installation procedure and test the software in the lab environment before deploying the software. We also require a number of weeks to deploy the lab images across campus, which means our solutions need to be complete and tested several weeks prior to classes beginning.

Please submit your Software Request forms ASAP.

Our ISP has identified the likely issue and is working to restore full connectivity.

UPDATE 1 - 14:43
ITS has identified the probable cause of the sporadic internet issues currently affecting campus. We believe the issue is due to a router misconfiguration upstream and on a different network.

We are working with our ISP to rectify the issue.

Announcing Training for Google Apps

Google Apps Updates:  Training for Google Apps is Rebranding to G Suite Training

Google is rebranding its Google Apps products to:  G Suite Training.  Whether you’ve just gone Google or have been using Google Apps for years, IT departments always have a need to train new users and keep them up to date on the latest technologies. In a perfect world, each employee would have helpful IT staff by their side to guide them every step of the way, but that’s not always possible, nor is it really practical. That’s why we are excited to announce G Suite Training, the newest training resource available to all Google Apps organizations.

What is Training for Google Apps or G Suite Training?

Designed to be simple and efficient, Training for Google Apps or G Suite Training is a new interactive in-app learning experience to help users get quickly up and running with Google Apps. Built on the Google Cloud Platform, G Suite Training acts like a virtual coach inside of the Google Apps interface. Users have access to voice and text interactive modules that are searchable by topic within any of the Google Apps products, which includes Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Google+, and even Classroom.

How can Training for Google Apps help me?

Based on our customer studies, we’ve seen that organizations that deploy G Suite Training see an average of 35 percent higher adoption across Apps products. Here are a few examples of things you can quickly get your admins and end-users trained on:
  • Setting up your email signature
  • Recovering Deleted Email
  • Set Expiring Dates for Shared Documents
  • And hundreds more

The In-App Experience is extremely helpful: Training is accessible within Google Apps, you don't have to leave the application to learn how to use it.
Learn about key features right inside the app!
  Here’s how to get started
Set up the G Suite Training Chrome extension (formerly Training for Google Apps) to access interactive, self-paced G Suite lessons directly in your browser. This free extension adds a Training menu (Training for <!-- 6087205 -->G Suite<!-- end6087205 --> menu) to G Suite services, including the Admin console, Calendar, Classroom, Docs, Drive, Forms, Gmail, Google+, Groups, Hangouts, Sheets, Sites, and Slides. Click the menu to see relevant lessons. Each lesson is quick and easy-to-follow, with onscreen instructions and tips to guide you.
The extension is simple to use, making it an ideal way to learn about new features and increase G Suite usage in your domain
Please see Google's Help Center article for more information.
