Update: Campus Network Outage - 11/16

Update: 11/17 4:30 PM: ITS will be conducting a short test on our network tonight at 9:30 PM. This test is expected to last for 20-30 minutes, during which our network will be unavailable. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience on this matter.

Update 11/16 2:44 PM: Network stability has improved. However, please be informed that ITS will be conducting maintenance on our network tonight, 11/16, starting at 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM. During this time, the network will be temporarily unavailable.

The campus has been experiencing intermittent network disruptions due to challenges faced by our mainstream internet service provider. 

ITS is actively addressing and monitoring the situation to ensure a swift resolution.

COMPLETED: Network Upgrade - O'Malley Library 4th Floor - 11/22 - 10 AM to 2 PM

In order to maintain a safe, secure, and reliable network, ITS will be upgrading the equipment in O'Malley Library 4th Floor. This will occur on November 22nd and is expected to last from 10 AM - 2 PM. This maintenance will cause our network on the 4th Floor of O'Malley to be down durring the duration of the upgrade. It is important to clarify that this upgrade only affects wired connections on the 4th floor, impacting areas such as the 410 lab, offices, printers, and other hardwired connections. WiFi functionality will remain uninterrupted durring this time.

Miguel Network Maintenance - 10/28 - 6AM - 8AM

UPDATE 6/28 7:50 AM : Maintenance Completed


In order to maintain a safe, secure, and reliable network, ITS will be performing maintenance on our network infrastructure in Miguel Hall. PLANNED NETWORK OUTAGES 6/20-6/22: Hayden, DLS & Leo

UPDATE 6/22 7:04 PM: Maintenance has been completed. Network connectivity in Leo Buidling is restored.

In order to improve network reliability throughout campus, ITS will be conducting upgrades on network equipment that services the campus. The maintenance will occur on 6/20, 6/21 and 6/22 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM. During the maintenance windows, some network services in the following buildings, including internet access, scanning, and printing, may be unavailable.


The upgrade schedule is as follows:


Tuesday 6/20: Hayden

Wednesday 6/21: DLS

Thursday 6/22: Leo

Campus Network Outage

Update 11/17/20 @ 10:22AM: Network issue is resolved.  Investigating cause.

ITS is investigating a campus network outage.  Extent of the outage is being investigated as well as the cause.  We will update this post when more information is available.  Cloud based services are currently unaffected.

COMPLETE: Planned Network Maintenance - Leo on 5/13 at 7am

UPDATE: This maintenance was completed around 9:30 this morning. If you are having any Internet connection problems, please reach out to ITS.

ITS will be conducting network maintenance in Leo Engineering on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 7am-10am, which will cause some localized network outages. 

In order to migrate current network connections to new equipment in anticipation of the upcoming construction in the basement of Leo Engineering building, ITS will be conducting network maintenance in Leo. This maintenance will cause disruption to both the wired and wireless networks throughout both Leo Engineering and the new GPAC (formerly Mahan) building. This maintenance will not affect the rest of campus.

Wednesday, February 27th DNS server change over

Wednesday February 27th at 7am ITS will be transitioning to new DNS servers for the manhattan.edu domain.

We do not expect any outages or down time for any services and will have staff closely monitoring for the rest of the week.

COMPLETED: Network Maintenance - Unplanned Emergency Action

Internet services have been moved back to our primary service provider as of Saturday 5/5 after we received notification from our primary ISP that their emergency maintenance to repair construction damaged fiber optic cable had been completed.  ITS continues to monitor this connection for abnormalities, however, we are seeing no issues since Saturday.

After reviewing information available to us, we have also concluded that the Banner outage that started at approximately 11PM on May 1 was the result of poor/inconsistent network performance that we experienced when the damage occurred to our provider's fiber optic cable.  Since the network connection remained active, although performing poorly, during this incident, our backup connection did not take over (since the primary connection was not "offline").  ITS will work with our network partners to determine the best way to prevent similar issues in the future.

UPDATE 1: Network Maintenance - Unplanned Emergency Action

Our network connection has been successfully moved from our primary to backup provider.  We observed an interruption between 2:01-2:03PM.  ITS has verified that all network services are back online.

ITS will continue to monitor services during the maintenance window provided by our ISP and return network service to our primary connection once we have confirmed that all emergency maintenance has been completed.

Network Maintenance - Unplanned Emergency Action

Our Internet Service Provider has advised us of emergency maintenance that will be taking place this afternoon to repair a fiber optic cable due to construction damage.  As a result, ITS will be moving our Internet connection to our backup provider at 2:00PM TODAY to avoid any prolonged outage that may result form this unplanned emergency maintenance.  Users may experience a brief interruption at 2:00PM when this change is made.  In most cases, simply reloading the page should resolve the issue.

Internet Connectivity Issues - ITS Investigating

ITS has identified a network issue affecting some traffic to/from the Internet.  We have determined that sites such as Google.com (and related services), Netflix, and YouTube are AVAILABLE, however, some other websites and services are experiencing a disruption.

We have temporarily resolved the issue by switching to our backup Internet Service Provider, however, we will be working to permanently resolve the issue.

Update: Maintenance Completed: Emergency Banner Production Maintenance, Wednesday, 6/21, 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM

ITS will be performing emergency network maintenance on the Banner production database starting at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, 6/21. Banner should remain accessible during the maintenance, and maintenance should be completed by 8:00 AM at the latest.

OUTAGE Manhattan College Network

At around 640pm, ITS was made aware of a network outage affecting the entire campus.

We have received notification from our Internet Service Provider stating that maintenance is being done on some network equipment to improve security, stability, and capacity.

This maintenance will be from 6pm until approximately 1159pm tonight.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

Issue affecting MC's network resources

ITS is aware of an issue affecting network traffic trying to connect to services hosted on our network. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will update this blog post as more information becomes available.

UPDATE - ITS Network Planned Outage - 11/16

Hayden Network OFFLINE

Hayden Network OFFLINE


UPDATE: At 10:15am this morning, both wired and wireless network in Hayden Hall has been restored. We apology for this inconvenience.

UPDATE: At approximately 9:00AM, ITS was able to bring up part of the network in Hayden Hall. Wired and wireless access is still OFFLINE in some parts of Hayden. 

At 8:37AM, ITS was informed of a network outage affecting Hayden Hall. ITS is currently troubleshooting this network outage. Currently wired and wireless access to Hayden is OFFLINE.

We are working diligently to bring this network back online. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Client Services Response Times Will Be Slower Than Normal Wednesday August 24th - Friday September 16th

As per usual, Client Services will be prioritizing support for Classrooms, Computer Labs, Event Support, and the Network above all other requests for the period of Wednesday August 24th - Friday September 16th.  Support for all other issues will take longer than usual.  We ask that all other requests be put on hold until after Friday September 16th, if possible.  Thank you for your consideration.

Overlook Network OFFLINE

UPDATE:
5:30PM
ITS has identified and corrected the issue.  All wired and wireless network access in Overlook should now be ONLINE.


5:10PM
ITS is investigating a reported network issue affecting service to Overlook Manor.  Currently wired and wireless access to Overlook is OFFLINE.

RESOLVED: Network Outage - Parts of Miguel Hall

RESOLVED:
As of approximately 3:50 we believe all Jaspernet Services to be functioning normally in Miguel hall.

UPDATED:

2:55PM - ITS has identified a failed network component in Miguel Hall.  WIFI and "newer" network connections remain UNAFFECTED.  Currently only some "older" connections in Miguel hall are offline.  ITS is working to replace the failed component.


2:39PM - ITS has received reports of network issues in Memorial and Miguel Halls.  We are currently investigating and will have an update shortly.
